Court Orders Review of Prison Conditions for Murder Suspect After Leaked Video

A Tel Aviv district court has ordered the Israel Prison Service (IPS) to review the detention conditions of Agam Zarfati, a suspect in the murder of Binyamin Razie, following the public circulation of a video showing her in custody. The court sharply criticized the actions of prison guards depicted in the footage and the video's release.

Zarfati's legal team had filed a petition seeking an injunction against the IPS, alleging that the video, which showed her being led with her face to the floor, was leaked from the office of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir as part of a political maneuver. Her lawyer claimed the video's release was intended to create sympathy for her while attempting to place blame on her for the incident.

The court also directed the IPS to examine Zarfati's request to speak with her parents, which had been broadly prohibited. Furthermore, the court ruled against her solitary confinement and reduced the duration of her paired confinement from 30 days to six.

Minister Ben-Gvir had previously shared the video on social media, stating, "In my policy, murderers will not celebrate in prison!" He praised the security forces involved in the operation.

The family of Binyamin Razie expressed their distress over attempts to generate sympathy for Zarfati, emphasizing that Razie, who was under 19, was the sole victim of the "horrific murder."

Last month, seven individuals were indicted in connection with Razie's murder. The indictment alleges that the main suspect and another individual stabbed Razie following a dispute that reportedly began with his girlfriend, Zarfati. Zarfati and another woman had allegedly rented an Airbnb where the altercation occurred, after which they left claiming Razie had been violent towards them.
