Ireland Withdraws from Eurovision 2027 Over Israel's Participation
Ireland has officially announced its withdrawal from the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, marking the second consecutive year the nation will not participate. The Irish public broadcaster, RTÉ, confirmed it will not send a representative or broadcast the event, stating its position "remains unchanged." RTÉ cited the ongoing deaths in Gaza and the humanitarian situation as primary reasons for its decision. The broadcaster also expressed continued concern over the lack of independent access for international journalists to Gaza.
Ireland previously boycotted Eurovision 2026, a decision that was also followed by Spain, the Netherlands, Iceland, and Slovenia. The 2027 contest is scheduled to be held in Burgas, Bulgaria.
Martin Österdahl, Eurovision's executive supervisor, stated that the European Broadcasting Union regrets RTÉ's decision but fully respects it, expressing hope for Ireland's return in the future.
