Ireland to Boycott Eurovision 2027 Over Israel's Participation
Ireland will continue its boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 due to Israel's participation, the state broadcaster RTÉ announced. RTÉ confirmed that the country will not participate in or broadcast the event.
The broadcaster stated that it considers Israel's participation unjustified given the ongoing casualties in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis, which it believes endangers civilian lives. RTÉ also expressed concern over the lack of independent access for international journalists to the Gaza Strip.
Last year, Ireland, along with the Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, and Slovenia, withdrew from the contest after the European Broadcasting Union decided to allow Israel to compete. The Netherlands has since confirmed its boycott of the 2027 contest, though its national broadcaster is considering transferring participation to another company. Decisions from Spain, Iceland, and Slovenia have not yet been announced.
Eurovision 2027 is scheduled to take place from May 11-15 in Burgas, Bulgaria.
