Ireland Confirms Eurovision Boycott Over Gaza Conflict
Ireland's national broadcaster, RTÉ, has officially confirmed its decision not to participate in or broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. The broadcaster explicitly linked this decision to the ongoing war and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
RTÉ stated that participation in the contest is "unjustifiable" given the loss of life and ongoing risks to civilian lives. The Irish broadcaster also expressed deep concern over the continued denial of independent access for international journalists to enter Gaza.
The European Broadcasting Union is awaiting official decisions from Spain, the Netherlands, Iceland, and Belgium, who have not yet announced their participation in the 2027 contest.
