Senior Pediatric Gastroenterologist Sentenced to Six Years for Sexual Offenses
The Tel Aviv District Court has sentenced Professor Arieh Levin, a senior pediatric gastroenterologist and former head of the pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition unit at Wolfson Medical Center, to six years in prison. Levin was convicted as part of a plea deal for raping the mother of one of his patients, committing indecent acts against two other female patients, and abusing his official position.
The prosecution had sought a 13-year sentence. Levin admitted to the facts of the amended indictment as part of the plea agreement, which did not include a sentencing agreement between the parties. Prior to the sentencing hearing, he deposited NIS 750,000 as compensation for the victims and committed to permanently revoking his medical license, thereby ceasing to practice medicine.
Levin's conviction stems from charges including the rape of a patient's mother, along with indecent acts against two other patients. The plea deal allowed him to avoid a full trial on these charges.
