Senior Doctor Sentenced to Six Years for Rape and Sexual Offenses

Professor Aryeh Levin, a prominent pediatric gastroenterologist and former head of a unit at Wolfson Medical Center, has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to the rape of a patient's mother and committing sexual offenses against two other female patients. Levin initially denied the charges but later changed his plea as part of a plea agreement, which did not include an agreed-upon sentence.

As part of the agreement, Levin paid NIS 750,000 in compensation to the victims, and his medical license was permanently revoked. The Tel Aviv District Prosecutor's Office had requested a 13-year prison sentence, arguing that Levin exploited his esteemed position and the trust placed in him by patients who viewed him as a "savior."

Prosecutors stated that Levin committed the offenses in a treatment room while the women were vulnerable, taking advantage of their helplessness and dependence on him as their doctor, particularly when they were fighting for their lives. Following the sentencing, the prosecution announced they would review the verdict and consider their next steps.

The court's decision reflects a significant legal outcome for a respected medical professional accused of serious misconduct.
