Leading Israeli Pediatric Gastroenterologist Sentenced to Six Years for Rape
A prominent pediatric gastroenterologist from Holon, Professor Aryeh Levin, has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Tel Aviv District Court for raping the mother of a patient. The sentence was handed down on Thursday, September 17, as part of a plea deal. Levin, formerly the head of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at Wolfson Medical Center, had previously admitted guilt to the rape, indecent acts against two female patients, and abuse of professional authority.
As part of the agreement, Levin paid 750,000 shekels in compensation to the victims before the court hearing and has committed to permanently relinquishing his medical license. The prosecution had initially sought a 13-year prison sentence.
Under the revised indictment, Levin pleaded guilty to indecent acts involving two patients, including inappropriate touching. Some of these incidents occurred immediately after examinations while the patients were in a vulnerable state. The most serious charge involved the mother of a minor patient. Investigators allege that approximately 14 years ago, Levin locked his office door, pushed the woman onto a couch, and raped her when she came to collect her son's documents.
Another charge states that Levin abused his position to perform invasive medical procedures on a patient without her consent. The article notes that these offenses allegedly took place between 2013 and 2021. The number of charges against Levin was significantly reduced as part of the plea negotiations between the prosecution and the defense.
