Man Impersonating Doctor Sentenced to 30 Months for Abusing Patients

A Jerusalem court has sentenced a man to 30 months in prison for impersonating medical staff at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and committing "severe acts" against vulnerable patients. The court found that the defendant exploited the trust patients place in medical professionals.

The man, wearing a mask, gloves, and what appeared to be medical attire, entered the hospital late at night. He carried a folder and documents to project a professional image and gained access to patient rooms without being stopped. He then allegedly committed severe acts against helpless patients, including a minor who had recently undergone a medical procedure.

Prosecutors stated that the defendant repeatedly attempted to find more victims using similar tactics before his actions were discovered. In sentencing, the judge considered the severity of the offenses against the sanctity of the medical environment, but also took into account the defendant's confession, young age, remorse, and clean record. He received 30 months of actual imprisonment, a suspended sentence, and was ordered to pay compensation to the victim.

The sentencing aims to send a strong message against crossing red lines in medical institutions, emphasizing that hospitals are places where patients are in a state of complete weakness and helplessness and deserve maximum protection from exploitation. This case follows other recent incidents of impersonation and fraud in medical facilities, including a similar case at Beilinson Hospital where individuals posing as medical staff defrauded a patient.

Law enforcement urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected impersonation or unusual behavior by medical personnel. Hospitals are reinforcing that all individuals within their facilities must be clearly identified with official hospital identification badges.
