Jerusalem Court Sentences Imposter Doctor for Patient Assaults

A Jerusalem court has sentenced Matan Shaul to 30 months in prison and nine months of probation for impersonating a medical professional and assaulting patients at the Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital. The sentence also includes a NIS 15,000 compensation payment to a minor victim.

According to the investigation, Shaul entered the hospital at night, disguised in medical attire, and used his false identity to gain access to patient rooms. He then committed indecent acts against patients under the guise of medical examinations, including a minor.

The Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office, represented by attorney Hadar Rubinstein, had sought a harsher sentence of 45 months, emphasizing the egregious nature of crimes committed in a place of healing and vulnerability.

Presiding Judge Joya Scappa Shapira noted in her verdict that Shaul cynically exploited the patients' vulnerability and trust in medical staff. She stated that while Shaul was not a qualified therapist, his elaborate and cunning plan to harm victims by impersonating a medical professional, thereby obtaining consent through deception, could not be overlooked.
