Woman Posing as Doctor Steals Personal Items from Staff at Northern Israeli Hospital
A 30-year-old woman from Wadi Ara has been charged with repeatedly stealing personal belongings from medical staff at Emek Medical Center in Afula. Disguised in a white coat and surgical scrubs, she frequented various hospital departments almost daily between July and September 2024, taking items such as wallets, perfumes, stethoscopes, and jewelry from doctors' and nurses' bags. The indictment filed at Nazareth Magistrate's Court lists 13 counts of theft, describing a consistent pattern of daily thefts.
Specific incidents include stealing a stethoscope from a surgical department in early August, taking a flowerpot from the immunology department, and multiple thefts from the surgical and pediatric departments involving cash, credit cards, and luxury perfumes like Chanel and Valentino. On September 8, she stole 100 shekels and 150 pounds along with perfume from a dermatologist's bag.
The police began investigating after a surge of complaints from hospital staff about missing wallets, phones, and other personal items. Security footage revealed a woman dressed as hospital staff but not affiliated with the hospital. When confronted, she admitted to impersonating a doctor but initially denied possessing stolen goods. She was arrested the following day at the hospital entrance.
The indictment notes that when detained, she claimed to be a medical resident. Her public defender, attorney Maron Yaakov, stated she is a young woman with no criminal record who denies all charges, and that they will review the case and respond in court.
