Fatal Hit-and-Run: Stolen Car Kills Cyclist in Herzliya
A cyclist, approximately 50 years old, was killed this morning in Herzliya after being struck by a stolen vehicle on Ariel Sharon Road, near the beach. Police apprehended the 24-year-old Palestinian driver, an illegal resident from Nablus, on suspicion of stealing the car shortly before the incident from Yonitzman Street in Tel Aviv.
Magen David Adom (MDA) received the report of the accident at 8:22 AM. A paramedic described the scene as a "shocking traffic accident," finding the cyclist unconscious with no pulse or breathing, and the car overturned nearby. Resuscitation efforts were initiated but the cyclist was evacuated in critical condition to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Traffic accident investigators at the scene discovered a bag in the overturned stolen vehicle containing tools used for car theft, including an ignition computer, a hammer, and breaking implements. The driver, identified as an illegal resident from Nablus, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and car theft.
