This development follows a controversy involving rapper Macklemore, who was removed from Sheeran's tour after making pro-Palestinian statements on stage, including shouting "Free Palestine."

Macklemore, who had been performing as an opening act for Sheeran, announced he would donate his entire tour earnings, approximately $1 million, to six Palestinian organizations. He also challenged Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of Gillette Stadium and a prominent pro-Israel donor, to match the sum.

Kraft revealed in an official statement that Ed Sheeran had personally contacted him, requesting a $2 million commitment to match Macklemore's donation and aid the humanitarian crisis in the region.
