Macklemore Pledges $1 Million to Palestinian Aid After Tour Exclusion

American rapper Macklemore announced he will donate his entire $1 million fee from Ed Sheeran's "Loop tour" to organizations aiding Palestinians in Gaza. The decision followed his removal from the tour's lineup after he voiced support for Palestine on stage. The rapper also publicly challenged Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and a prominent sponsor, who had previously denied Macklemore use of his Gillette Stadium near Boston.

Macklemore stated on social media that he aims to redirect public attention to Palestinians living amidst conflict and fighting for their rights, emphasizing the equal value of every Palestinian life. In response, Robert Kraft issued a statement saying Ed Sheeran had contacted him and requested a $2 million donation to address the humanitarian crisis in the region, though Kraft did not specify which charities would receive the funds.

The controversy began earlier in the month when Macklemore declared his support for Palestine during a performance in New Jersey. This led to a petition from the Israeli-American Council demanding his removal from the tour. Subsequently, other artists on the tour withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore.

Ed Sheeran had previously maintained a neutral stance on political issues. However, stadium owners indicated that concerts would not proceed if Macklemore remained as an opening act, leading to his eventual exclusion from the tour.
