Israel and Morocco to Upgrade Diplomatic Ties to Embassy Level

Israel and Morocco have agreed to elevate their diplomatic missions to the rank of embassies and appoint ambassadors, a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations. The commitment was made during a trilateral summit in New York involving Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, and U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz. The two foreign ministers were also scheduled for a one-on-one meeting.

Economically, the two nations aim to finalize agreements on investment protection and the prevention of double taxation by the end of 2026. This initiative seeks to encourage mutual investments and boost trade exchanges.

Direct air travel between Israel and Morocco is set to resume and be enhanced in the coming weeks, with Moroccan airlines expected to launch direct flights after a three-year hiatus. Both countries also plan reciprocal visits by high-ranking officials in the near future.

The summit, held following a reception celebrating the sixth anniversary of the Abraham Accords, saw Israel express gratitude to the U.S. for its role in facilitating the meeting and fostering relations. Foreign Minister Sa'ar highlighted the deep historical friendship between the Moroccan and Jewish peoples, stating that the signed declaration outlines concrete measures for strengthening ties for the benefit of both nations.
