Netanyahu's Allies Mock Reports of Police Spokesperson Promotion

Reports emerged Wednesday that Police Commissioner Danny Levi intends to appoint Superintendent Aryeh Doron as the new head of the Police Spokesperson Unit, replacing Lior Abudraham. However, sources close to National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir reacted with derision to the news, stating the chances of the appointment going through are "close to zero."

According to the minister's associates, the Police Commissioner must submit any such appointment request through Minister Ben-Gvir. They claim Doron has been briefing against Ben-Gvir for two weeks, making his promotion unlikely. "We laughed out loud," the sources told Channel 14. "Doron is busy briefing against the minister for two weeks, so it's unclear on what basis he wants a promotion. Someone who attacks the minister responsible for the police and knowingly harms the organization for his own benefit will not be promoted."

The sources further asserted that Doron is unsuitable to be the "face of the Israel Police," calling the role of spokesperson crucial. They also noted that Doron is currently under disciplinary review after calling former IDF Chief of Staff Yair Golan a "disturber of Israel."

The report also suggested that the appointment process for the head of the Spokesperson Unit requires a formal tender and discussion of assignments at the national level, and is not a position of trust that can be filled without due process. This indicates the reports of Doron's promotion should be taken with a grain of salt.
