Police Commissioner Considers Appointing New Spokesperson Amid Ministry Disputes

Police Commissioner Danny Levy is considering appointing Superintendent Aryeh Doron as the head of the police's spokesperson unit. Doron would replace Superintendent Lior Abudraham, who is set to retire from the force. Abudraham's name was linked to the 'associates of Ben-Gvir' affair approximately three months ago, following a complaint by a senior female officer alleging sexual harassment.

The potential appointment of Doron occurs against the backdrop of ongoing disagreements between Commissioner Levy and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir regarding appointments within the police force. Discussions on the matter, initially scheduled for about ten days prior, were canceled by Ben-Gvir, who stated that appointments should wait until after the elections. However, sources indicate the core of the dispute lies in the selection of candidates for key positions, including the head of the prosecution department and deputy legal advisor.

Despite Ben-Gvir's strong objections, the first round of police appointments was completed on the same evening, with Commissioner Levy appointing Superintendent Tamar Liberty as deputy legal advisor. In response, Ben-Gvir escalated the conflict by deciding to withhold approximately 300 million shekels in budgets allocated for the police.
