Police Commissioner Launches Disciplinary Action Against Spokesperson Over Remarks

Police Commissioner Danny Levy has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Police Spokesperson Aryeh Doron following remarks made by Doron about Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party. In a radio interview, Doron referred to Golan as "one of the greatest troublemakers in Israel." The decision to launch the proceedings was made on Wednesday, prompted by a petition filed with the High Court of Justice concerning the controversial statement.

The petition was submitted by attorney Gonen Ben-Yitzhak, who demanded disciplinary action against Doron. Ben-Yitzhak had previously approached the Police Commissioner and other senior police officials regarding Doron's statements but received no response. The court had instructed the police to respond to the petition by September 2nd.

On Wednesday, the legal counsel for the Israel Police announced that a disciplinary inquiry had been opened against Doron, which would result in a recommendation regarding his case. Attorney Ben-Yitzhak, from the "Otef Atzurim" (Detainee Support) organization, criticized the police's initial inaction, stating that Doron's comments violated norms of public administration, especially for a senior police officer. He expressed sadness that only the petition forced the police to act and vowed to pursue the matter to its conclusion.

This incident follows previous statements by Doron regarding compliance with court orders, where he stated, "We will obey whoever the law requires." The Democratic Party has also recently commented on a conspiracy theory attributed to Sara Netanyahu, describing it as "bordering on madness."
