Police Spokesperson Faces Disciplinary Hearing Over Remarks on Yair Golan

Israel Police's disciplinary department has initiated a review against Police Spokesperson Superintendent Aryeh Doron following controversial remarks he made about Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party. The disciplinary process began on Thursday, after a petition was filed with the High Court of Justice last month demanding action against Doron. The police decided to proceed with the review before the court ruled on the petition.

The controversy erupted in June when Doron, in an interview with Radio Galey Israel, criticized Golan for his statements concerning the Police Commissioner and the head of the Shin Bet security agency. Doron described Golan's remarks as coming from "one of the greatest troublemakers in Israel who harms Israel's heroes," adding that Golan "fell in love with the approach of attacking those in uniform" and aimed to "gather votes." Doron also referenced Golan's past statements, suggesting the Democratic Party chairman "should be ashamed and disgraced."

Shortly after the interview, Doron issued a clarification, retracting his statements. However, the High Court petition has now brought his remarks under formal disciplinary scrutiny within the police force.
