Police Spokesperson Faces Disciplinary Hearing Over Remarks on Yair Golan

Israel Police's disciplinary department has opened a disciplinary inquiry against Police Spokesperson Superintendent Aryeh Doron. The action follows his statement in a radio interview that Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party, "sounds like a disturber of Israel." The inquiry was initiated in response to a petition filed last month with the High Court of Justice, which demanded the police force open an internal disciplinary process. The police did not wait for the court's ruling and proceeded with the investigation.

The controversy stems from a heated radio interview in June where Doron described Golan as "one of the greatest disturbers of Israel." Doron sharply criticized Golan's remarks concerning the Police Commissioner and the head of the Shin Bet security agency, stating that Golan's comments "sound like the words of one of the greatest disturbers of Israel who harms Israel's heroes." Doron further alleged that Golan "fell in love with the approach of harming those who wear uniforms" and aimed to "gather votes," citing Golan's past statements and asserting he "should be ashamed and disgraced."

Shortly after the interview, Doron clarified his remarks and announced he was retracting them.
