Gaza Building Collapse Traps Dozens, Kills At Least Eight

A six-story building known as "Saada Building" collapsed early today in the Tel al-Hawa area of Gaza City, trapping dozens of displaced people inside. The Palestinian Civil Defense reported that rescue teams have recovered at least eight bodies, including children, and that 15 people were injured. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing, with the fate of many individuals still unknown.

Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal stated that over 60 people remain missing under the rubble, including women and children. He described the difficulty of the rescue efforts due to the collapsed structure. Initial reports suggest the death toll could rise as search operations continue.

The building, located near the UNRWA headquarters in western Gaza City, had sustained damage from repeated Israeli shelling during the ongoing conflict, which likely weakened its structure prior to the collapse. The incident highlights the ongoing danger faced by displaced civilians sheltering in damaged buildings.

The current casualty count stands at a minimum of eight dead and 15 injured, with over 60 still unaccounted for. Efforts are focused on locating and extracting those trapped beneath the debris.
