Gaza Building Collapse Kills 8, Leaves Dozens Missing

Eight Palestinians were killed and 13 others injured when a six-story residential building collapsed early Wednesday morning in Gaza City's Industrial Street. Approximately 60 people remain missing, according to the Gaza Civil Defense. The "Al-Saada" building collapsed suddenly onto its residents, who were displaced persons, and also affected adjacent tents, resulting in numerous casualties and dozens trapped under the rubble.

Civil Defense teams, along with Gaza Municipality crews, have been conducting search and rescue operations since midnight, attempting to reach those trapped and recover survivors and the missing. The rescue efforts are hampered by difficult field conditions, the sheer volume of debris, and challenges in accessing the trapped individuals. Teams are working around the clock amid fears the death toll will rise.

The collapse occurred amidst a continued displacement crisis, with large numbers of Gazans residing in buildings damaged by Israeli shelling due to a lack of alternative housing. The report notes that at least 34 Palestinians have previously died and dozens have been injured in similar incidents involving damaged buildings during the ongoing conflict.
