Gaza Civil Defense Recovers 100 Bodies From Rubble
Civil defense crews in the Gaza Strip have recovered the bodies and remains of 100 Palestinians from under the rubble in the Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City. The deceased were killed in previous Israeli airstrikes on the area.
A large funeral procession was held for the 100 victims, predominantly women and children, after their remains were extracted from destroyed homes.
Earlier, Gaza's Civil Defense Directorate announced the recovery of 55 bodies from the ruins of a house destroyed by the Israeli army on November 19, 2023, in the same neighborhood. This operation is part of the second phase of the "Restoration of Martyrs' Bodies" project, launched on July 19, aimed at retrieving the remains of missing persons from collapsed buildings.
The project faces significant challenges due to a severe shortage of equipment and resources. Mohammed Abu Daan, the project supervisor, stated that civil defense teams are struggling with limited machinery and appealed to international humanitarian organizations for excavators and trucks to aid in recovering more bodies.
