Israeli, Arab Military Chiefs Meet in Germany Amid Regional Tensions

A discreet and unusual military meeting took place in Germany, initiated by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), bringing together senior commanders and chiefs of staff from Israel and eight Arab nations. The gathering occurred against a backdrop of regional tension and direct confrontation with Iran, and is considered extraordinary due to the participation of countries without diplomatic ties with Israel. Participants included the top military officials from Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Egypt. This was the first such assembly since the direct confrontation with Iran began over six months ago, and it was not officially announced in advance. General Cooper affirmed that the U.S. intends to maintain its presence in the Middle East, even after Iranian attacks on American bases in the region. He also presented a plan to enhance maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Israel's Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, briefed attendees on the operational status of Israeli security forces and ongoing combat operations across various fronts. The meeting also addressed the escalating threat from the Houthis, including their de facto control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and increased attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Discussions are reportedly underway, mediated by CENTCOM, regarding potential Israeli tactical and intelligence support for Saudi military operations against the Houthis. This potential collaboration mirrors the existing security partnership between Israel and the UAE, which has included deploying Iron Dome missile defense systems and sharing real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

The summit reflects a deepening of regional security coordination in recent years, partly influenced by the Abraham Accords and Israel's integration into CENTCOM's area of responsibility.
