Israel's Envoy to UAE Predicts New Arab Nation Joining Abraham Accords

Israel's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Yossi Shelley, stated on Tuesday that another country is expected to join the Abraham Accords in the coming months, suggesting Kuwait as a potential candidate. Shelley told Kan Reshet Bet radio that he estimates this will happen within four to six months, adding that "everyone is working on it" and that Kuwaitis are beginning to understand the significance of recent events, possibly making them the next signatory.

Shelley also addressed reports claiming that UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the October 7th Hamas attacks. Shelley, who was Director-General of the Prime Minister's Office at the time, denied these reports, stating he has no recollection of any such warning or discussion during that period. He emphasized that he was present during those days and never heard of such a notification in March, April, May, or June.

Regarding the public discussion of these reports, Shelley believes the issue has passed without significant impact on Israel-UAE relations. He suggested that any direct statement from the Emiratis on the matter would have complicated things for both sides, and that those who "read between the lines" understand the underlying situation. Shelley concluded by noting that relations are improving, citing increased visits, some of which are not publicly reported due to the sensitive nature of the region.
