Teddy Stadium Undergoes $2 Million Renovation for Improved Playing Surface

Renovations have commenced at Jerusalem's Teddy Stadium, a project costing approximately two million shekels, aimed at enhancing the playing conditions for the city's football clubs. The upgrade includes transitioning the grass to a hybrid surface and installing heating lamps to ensure the pitch remains in optimal condition regardless of weather.

The existing turf at the stadium has struggled with insufficient sunlight, and the new heating system is intended to help it self-maintain more effectively. This initiative is part of a broader plan to improve football infrastructure in Jerusalem, which also involves expanding a training field in Givat Ram and Beit Vagan to meet standard dimensions. This expansion will accommodate youth team matches and alleviate pressure on Teddy Stadium.

As previously announced in early 2026, both Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Jerusalem were informed that they would not begin their 2026/27 season at Teddy Stadium due to the pitch renovation. The plan is for the teams to return to playing at the stadium after the international break, during the sixth matchday. Hapoel Jerusalem is scheduled to host Maccabi Haifa on October 10th, followed by Beitar Jerusalem facing Maccabi Tel Aviv in the seventh matchday.
