Teddy Stadium Undergoes $2 Million Renovation for Improved Playing Surface

Work has commenced on a NIS 2 million (approximately $540,000 USD) renovation project at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem, aimed at enhancing the playing surface for the city's football clubs. The upgrade involves converting the current grass pitch to a hybrid system and installing heating lamps to ensure optimal conditions regardless of weather.

The existing turf at Teddy Stadium has struggled with insufficient sunlight, and the new heating lamps are intended to help it maintain its quality more effectively. This project is part of a broader initiative to improve football infrastructure in Jerusalem.

In parallel, training fields in Givat Ram and Beit Vagan have been expanded to meet standard dimensions. These expanded fields will accommodate youth team matches, thereby reducing the strain on Teddy Stadium.

Both Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Jerusalem were previously informed that they would not be able to open their 2026/27 season at Teddy Stadium due to the pitch renovation. The plan is for the teams to return to playing home games at the stadium after the international break, during the sixth matchday. Hapoel Jerusalem is scheduled to host Maccabi Haifa on October 10th, followed by Beitar Jerusalem facing Maccabi Tel Aviv in the seventh matchday.
