Teen Arrested Near Bloomfield Stadium Ahead of Tel Aviv Derby

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on Monday in Jaffa on suspicion of attempting to ignite flares ahead of the Tel Aviv derby football match. Officers from the Ayalon district apprehended the minor on Jerusalem Boulevard, confiscating pyrotechnic devices from him. He was transferred to the Jaffa police station for questioning.

The arrest occurred during a police operation near Bloomfield Stadium, the venue for the highly anticipated derby. Police stated that their preparations for the match are ongoing and they will act against violence, disturbances, and attempts to bring prohibited items into the stadium.

The Tel Aviv derby, featuring Maccabi Tel Aviv against Hapoel Tel Aviv, is scheduled for 8:30 PM. Both teams are leading the league, with Maccabi having secured nine points from a possible nine and Hapoel with seven points and no goals conceded. A win for Hapoel would place them at the top of the league standings.

Maccabi Tel Aviv enters the game following a decisive 4-1 victory over Hapoel Be'er Sheva, aiming to maintain their perfect start to the season. Player Ester Sukler expressed his excitement for his first derby, stating, "Every player wants to play in the derby and I can't wait for it to start."

Hapoel Tel Aviv is also in strong form, having achieved recent wins against Beitar Jerusalem (3-0) and Hapoel Ramat Gan (4-0). Hapoel coach Eliniv Barda described his team's approach as "humble and determined," emphasizing focus on the game itself, which is worth three points, despite its prestige.
