Fan Arrested for Smuggling Flares Ahead of Soccer Match
Police in Tel Aviv arrested a 29-year-old man from northern Israel on Monday evening on suspicion of attempting to smuggle flares into Bloomfield Stadium. The arrest occurred before the start of a soccer match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa.
During a targeted operation around the stadium, officers from the Tel Aviv district, along with Border Police officers, discovered pyrotechnic devices hidden on a bus carrying fans of one of the teams. Additional pyrotechnic devices were found on the person of the arrested fan.
Authorities suspect the devices were intended to be brought inside the stadium during the game. The fan was taken into custody for further questioning.
