Israeli Midfielder Guni Naor Rejects Record Lithuanian League Contract

Israeli midfielder Guni Naor has signed with Hapoel Ramat Gan, marking his fourth club in Israel. Naor was released by Maccabi Haifa a year before his contract expired, following a loan spell in Greece last season. He will reunite with coach Masai Dego, with whom he previously worked at Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Naor's agent, Adam Keinan, revealed that his client received a lucrative offer from Zalgiris, which would have made him the highest-paid player in the history of the Lithuanian league. The proposed salary was at least 250,000 euros per season, significantly higher than the typical 4,000 to 6,000 euros net monthly earnings for players in the league. Despite the financial incentive, Naor made the "very brave decision" to decline the offer.

Keinan also addressed Naor's potential Lithuanian national team eligibility. While Naor had been called up, FIFA currently has the process on hold despite his documentation and passport. Naor himself decided that Lithuania was not the right path for him at this time.

Naor's decision to join Hapoel Ramat Gan was influenced by several factors, including the club's long-term vision and the presence of coach Masai Dego. Hapoel Ramat Gan offered him a two-year contract, with an option for a third year and guaranteed terms even if the team is relegated. Naor is described as someone who values stability and is not afraid of challenges.

Regarding his time at Maccabi Haifa, Naor was naturally disappointed with his lack of playing time but is intelligent enough to understand the club's direction. Keinan noted that other players have left Maccabi Haifa on less amicable terms.
