Avi Nesher's New Film 'Our Loves' Premieres to Standing Ovation at Toronto Film Festival
Avi Nesher's latest film, "Our Loves," received a warm reception at its world premiere on Sunday at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Selected for the prestigious "Centrepiece" program, the screening was held under heavy security and concluded with a prolonged standing ovation from the audience for Nesher and attending cast members Yaniv Biton, Noa Cohen, and Daniel Gimple.
The film, inspired by true events, is set on October 6, 2023, the day before the outbreak of the current war. Its narrative follows seven characters and their intersecting love stories in the final moments before the October 7th massacre. The cast also includes Shalom Michaelashvili, Magi Azarzar, Hadassiyatron, and Evelyn Hagoel.
Amidst a challenging period for Israeli cinema internationally, "Our Loves" has begun garnering positive reviews from festival critics. In addition to its international debut, the film, which was nominated for 12 Ophir Awards, will open the 42nd Haifa International Film Festival. During the opening night ceremony, Nesher will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the festival in recognition of his cinematic excellence and contributions to Israeli culture.
