Avi Nesher's Film on Oct. 7 Tragedy Premieres at Toronto Film Festival

The world premiere of "Our Loves," the latest film by Israeli director Avi Nesher, took place on September 13 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The movie is part of the Centrepiece program, which showcases new works by established filmmakers. The initial screening was held at the TIFF Lightbox cinema, with additional showings scheduled for September 15 and 19.

This marks Nesher's 21st feature film. Inspired by real events, "Our Loves" follows the intertwined stories of seven individuals. On the evening of October 6, 2023, each character is preoccupied with personal crises, believing they are experiencing the worst day of their lives. The following morning, the Hamas attack on Israel begins, forcing them to fight for survival and re-evaluate their lives.

The film stars Shalom Michaelashvili, Maggi Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Lena Fraifeld, Evelyn Hagal, Adas Yaron, Daniel Gimpel, and Noa Cohen. Nesher also wrote the screenplay, with Amit Yassur serving as cinematographer. "Our Loves" has received 12 nominations for Israel's Ophir Awards.

Following its Toronto debut, the film will open the 42nd Haifa International Film Festival on October 15, where Nesher will also be honored for his contributions to cinema. "Our Loves" is set to be released in Israeli cinemas on October 15.

Nesher previously emphasized the significance of an Israeli film being featured at a major international festival amidst attempts to boycott Israeli culture. The film was produced by Moshe and Leon Edery, Nesher himself, and Gidon Tadmor, with participation from American companies Fox Entertainment and Access Entertainment.
