A 36-year-old Palestinian man from Dahariya, near Hebron, was arrested on Thursday evening on suspicion of attacking a 20-year-old woman in the town of Azor. Security cameras recorded him following her in the street, getting closer over several moments, then lunging at her from behind, pinning her to the ground, and fleeing after she screamed.
The footage, which spread on social media, triggered a complaint from the woman after she reached a police station. That led to a quick investigation by the Holon police station in the Ayalon district, including overt and covert steps to identify the suspect. Police said the probe also involved coordination with other districts and with IDF forces.
According to the police, cooperation between Tel Aviv District, Southern District, Judea and Samaria District, and the army helped locate the suspect at his home in Dahariya and arrest him there. He was taken for questioning at the Holon police station.
Police said that depending on the findings of the investigation, they will ask a court to extend his detention.
