A 36-year-old resident of Dahariya was arrested after surveillance footage reportedly showed him attacking a woman in her 20s on a street in the local council of Azor. The incident, which took place in the middle of the street, was described by police as a suspected forcible indecent assault. The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended his detention by four days for further investigation.
According to material presented to the court, the suspect was seen following the woman, closing in on her, and then lunging at her from behind. The footage allegedly shows him grabbing her and knocking her to the ground. The woman shouted for help, and the suspect fled the scene.
Police also say he is suspected of unlawful presence in Israel. Investigators asked for a five-day extension, saying they had an initial evidentiary basis linking him to the incident and still needed additional investigative steps.
The suspect, identified as Ali Shaheen, denied any sexual assault. He told the court that his mobile phone had broken on his way to Israel and that he only wanted to use the woman's phone to call his brother. He said his SIM card had already been removed from his broken phone and admitted there had been contact between them, but rejected the allegations. The court also ordered an initial psychiatric evaluation.
