Suspect Arrested in Major Arms Theft from Naval Base
Police have arrested a 27-year-old resident of Netanya, identified as a central figure in the theft of weapons from the elite Shayetet 13 naval commando base. The suspect, who has a prior record for theft, burglary, drugs, and assault, was apprehended by investigators from the coastal district.
Authorities stated that the suspect's account of events did not align with the evidence, instead strengthening suspicions against him. The stolen weapons have since been recovered. This arrest marks the fourth in connection with the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident follows the recent arrest of a career soldier from the Nahal Brigade, along with two civilians, on suspicion of stealing three M4 rifles from the naval base in Atlit and engaging in illicit arms trafficking. The soldier appeared before a military court, which extended his detention for investigative purposes. The two civilians, also from Netanya, had their detentions extended by five and seven days respectively, pending further review by the prosecution.
