IDF Completes Tunnel Destruction in Southern Lebanon, Considers Force Reduction

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have completed operations to destroy Hezbollah tunnels in the Al-Taher mountain range in southern Lebanon, according to Channel 12. Following the destruction of the underground complex, IDF troops have withdrawn from the Al-Taher ridge but are regrouping along the "Blue Line." The Beaufort Castle stronghold will remain under IDF control for the time being, as the military assesses its future deployment in the area. Despite the withdrawal from the ridge, the IDF continues to strike targets in the Al-Taher region and nearby villages to prevent Hezbollah militants from returning to the cleared territory. The IDF is maintaining surveillance and fire control over the area and is coordinating with the Lebanese government regarding the potential deployment of Lebanese army units to the liberated sections.

While a lull in activity had been observed recently, the IDF emphasizes that troops are on high alert due to the possibility of a retaliatory response from Hezbollah. Units on the ground are preparing for various scenarios, and command continues to discuss future operational steps. The IDF is considering a significant reduction in its forces operating in Lebanon, potentially redeploying some conscript units to Judea and Samaria to alleviate the burden on reservists. However, no final decision has been made, and the alert level for troops in Lebanon remains high. Previously, the IDF revealed details of a months-long operation to gain control of the Al-Taher ridge, where Hezbollah had spent over two decades building an extensive underground infrastructure.
