IDF Withdraws Troops from Southern Lebanon After Tunnel Destruction
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is set to reduce its troop presence in southern Lebanon following the completion of operations to destroy Hezbollah tunnels in the Al-Taher ridge area. The military has reportedly pulled back to the Beaufort ridge and is expected to withdraw one brigade from the region in the coming days, according to Kan News.
The operation, which lasted several weeks, involved forces from the 36th Division crossing the Litani River to target Hezbollah infrastructure. During the operation, eight underground tunnels totaling over 5,400 meters in length were discovered and destroyed using more than 1,100 tons of explosives.
The fighting included ground operations and airstrikes, after initial IDF actions degraded Hezbollah's intelligence and observation capabilities around the ridge. Inside the tunnels, the IDF found drones, anti-tank missiles, and other weaponry. Approximately 50 Hezbollah operatives were killed within the complex, while others reportedly escaped amid fog.
The decision on the future deployment in the area is currently under discussion between the military and the political echelon. This withdrawal is described as a local and specific measure.
