Israel Vows Destruction for Hezbollah Encroachment on Ali Taher Ridge

Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stern warning to Hezbollah and other Lebanese actors on Tuesday, declaring that Israel will maintain operational control over the Ali Taher Ridge and prevent any attempts to re-establish a presence there. Katz asserted that the ridge is part of Israel's security zone in southern Lebanon and constitutes a "red line."

The Israeli military is prepared to continue controlling the area and act against any force attempting to approach it, Katz stated. He emphasized that any effort by Hezbollah or other armed groups to enter the region and rebuild military infrastructure will be met with force. This declaration follows recent extensive IDF operations on the ridge, during which forces reportedly destroyed a two-kilometer underground system containing Iranian-made rockets, missiles, and drones.

According to the IDF, before dismantling the infrastructure, forces secured operational control of the area, both above and below ground. Earlier phases of the operation involved clearing the terrain of Hezbollah operatives, some of whom were killed and others fled. The IDF reported finding command centers, weapons storage facilities, generator rooms, living quarters, and other installations that supported prolonged underground activity. The military described the network as a strategic asset developed over two decades with Iranian assistance and funding.

Katz clarified that this operation is not a one-time event, and Israel does not intend to withdraw. He reiterated that the security zone in southern Lebanon, spanning hundreds of square kilometers, is essential for protecting northern Israeli communities. Katz, along with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, maintains that Israel will not retreat in a manner that allows Hezbollah to re-establish military positions south of the Litani River or in areas overlooking northern settlements.

The core message from Israel is to prevent Hezbollah from exploiting any Israeli withdrawal to rebuild its forces and infrastructure. Katz stressed that the IDF will continue to operate wherever it detects attempts at re-establishment, targeting terrorists, weapons caches, and underground or surface facilities. This stance aligns with the IDF's recent concept of a "forward defense space," aimed at preventing the organization's resurgence as long as it poses a threat to northern residents.
