Massive Fire Contained at Tel Dan Nature Reserve After Joint Effort

A large wildfire broke out in the Tel Dan Nature Reserve in northern Israel, prompting the swift evacuation of hikers. Seven firefighting teams, "Elad" firefighting aircraft, Nature and Parks Authority forces, KKL-JNF personnel, and volunteer emergency squads equipped with "fire ATVs" worked together to bring the flames under control. The fire ignited under particularly challenging conditions, including strong winds and dry vegetation that acted as a rapid accelerant, complicating firefighting efforts. Visitors celebrating the holiday had to be quickly evacuated to prevent the fire from spreading.

After many hours of battling the blaze, the incident commander, Chief Fire Officer Gadi Azulai, announced that the extensive efforts had succeeded in containing the fire. However, he cautioned that the work was far from over, with firefighters remaining on site throughout the night to manage smoldering embers and prevent flare-ups. The cooperation between the various agencies was crucial in preventing an ecological disaster.

Fires in open areas in northern Israel are not uncommon during the summer, but the combination of strong winds and dry vegetation created a unique challenge for the firefighting forces. In recent weeks, fire and rescue teams have also dealt with a fire at the Nadvorna institutions in Bnei Brak and a waste site fire near the community of Ya'ara, which also involved firefighting aircraft.
