Firefighters Control Dangerous Blaze Near Gvaot Settlement

A dangerous wildfire erupted on September 4 near the Gvaot settlement in Judea and Samaria, fanned by strong winds and threatening nearby homes. The Israel Fire and Rescue Services, along with volunteers from the Yehuda regional station, responded rapidly, establishing a defensive line and evacuating residents from houses closest to the fire. Six firefighting aircraft from the "Elad" squadron created an aerial barrier to prevent the flames from reaching the community.

The firefighting operation involved close coordination with the Etzion Brigade of the IDF, the Shaaref District Police, and the Gush Etzion Regional Council. Security forces, military water tankers, and engineering equipment were deployed to create firebreaks and support the effort. Traffic police closed roads and ensured the safety of the evacuation.

"We have now brought a very complex incident under control," stated Tamir Erez, commander of the Yehuda District Police. He credited the swift response, precise aerial and ground firefighting, and excellent cooperation between emergency services and the military for stopping the fire and eliminating the danger to Gvaot. "Our teams will remain on site for the next few hours to ensure the area is completely safe."

Michael Randi, shift commander, reminded the public of existing fire bans. "An order from the Commissioner of the Israel Fire and Rescue Services prohibiting open fires in open areas has been issued.
