Firefighters Gain Control of Gush Etzion Blaze Threatening Homes

Firefighters on Friday gained control of a wildfire that broke out near the settlement of Giv'ot in the Gush Etzion region, which had been approaching residential areas. The fire services announced that the danger to homes had been removed after the first line of houses was evacuated earlier due to the flames spreading with the wind.

The blaze ignited in the early afternoon hours near the settlement and began moving towards the homes. Firefighters and volunteers from the Judea regional station deployed to create a containment line around the settlement's houses. Due to the fire's advance, the first line of homes was evacuated.

Six aircraft from the 'Elad' squadron joined the firefighting efforts, working to establish a containment line before the flames reached the settlement. Following the firefighting operations, the fire services declared that control had been achieved.

Deputy Fire Chief Tamir Erez, commander of the Judea regional station, stated, "We have achieved control at this hour in a very complex incident. Firefighters, volunteers, and all security forces worked with great determination, shoulder to shoulder, to protect the settlement." He added, "Thanks to a rapid response, precise aerial and ground firefighting actions, and excellent cooperation with the army and police, we managed to contain the fire and definitively remove the danger to the homes of the Giv'ot settlement."

Alongside the firefighting forces, the Etzion Brigade, the Etzion sector of the Judea and Samaria Police district, and the Gush Etzion Regional Council were involved. A military water tanker reinforced water lines, along with medical teams and engineering equipment that created firebreaks. Police officers from the Etzion station secured traffic routes and were prepared for resident evacuation.

Despite gaining control, firefighting teams continue to operate in the area and will remain on site for the coming hours to complete extinguishment and ensure the area is completely safe. Firefighter Michael Randy reminded the public of a fire commissioner's order prohibiting open fires in open areas, urging them to adhere to the ban to "prevent the next fire."
