Wildfire Threatens Homes in Gush Etzion, Residents Evacuated

A wildfire near the settlement of Giv'ot in the Gush Etzion region spread rapidly on Friday, fueled by strong winds that pushed the flames towards the community's first line of homes. Thick smoke prompted the evacuation of residents from these houses as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.

Over ten firefighting crews, supported by six aerial firefighting planes from the "Elad" squadron, battled the blaze. Firefighters and volunteers from the regional Judea station established a protective perimeter around the homes, both inside and outside the settlement, to prevent the fire from reaching them.

Police forces from the Etzion station and the Judea district secured the evacuation and managed traffic. Officers were also deployed to surrounding roads, prepared for the possibility of further evacuations. A joint command post, led by Superintendent Oren Shoshan and including representatives from all involved agencies, was established to coordinate the response.

Authorities reported full cooperation between the police and fire services in managing the incident. The fire was eventually contained after extensive efforts by the emergency services.
