Karem Primo to Fight for Bronze at Budapest Grand Slam Judo
Israeli judoka Karem Primo (63 kg) will compete for the bronze medal at the Budapest Grand Slam tournament on Saturday. Primo secured her spot in the bronze medal match after defeating Natalia Krupska of Poland in the repechage round. She had previously advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating her Czech opponent, but lost to Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia, sending her to the repechage.
In other Israeli results, Ohad Maimon (73 kg) was eliminated after losing in the repechage to Turan Bayramov of Turkey. Maimon had reached the quarterfinals, where he lost to Mammadali Mammadaliyev of Azerbaijan. A day earlier, Yizhak Aziza won a gold medal in the 60 kg category.
Other Israeli judokas competing on Saturday included Itay Biton (81 kg), Yonatan Elbaz (73 kg), Maya Gushan (70 kg), and Adelina Novitzky (70 kg). Biton lost in golden score to Petr Mladý of the Czech Republic. Elbaz was defeated by Sweden's Kardo Vardanyan. Gushan lost to Germany's Giovanna Giovannini in the final seconds, and Novitzky was beaten by Mongolia's Erdenechimeg Munkhzul.
The Budapest Grand Slam is the second day of the competition, with six Israeli judokas participating overall. The event is being held in Hungary.
