Yuli Mishiner Wins Bronze at Lausanne Grand Slam Judo Event

Israeli judoka Yuli Mishiner secured a bronze medal in the +78 kg category at the Grand Slam tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland. The competition concluded on Sunday, marking a significant achievement for Mishiner.

Earlier in the tournament, on the first day, Gefen Primo had won a gold medal, showcasing strong form ahead of the World Championships in Baku in October. Mishiner's bronze medal match was against Karen Leon of Venezuela, which she won.

Mishiner's path to the bronze included a victory over Russia's Ivanova in the second round, followed by a loss to France's Lea Fontaine, currently ranked third in the world. Fontaine defeated Mishiner with a waza-ari and an ippon within the first minute of their bout, sending Mishiner to the bronze medal match.

Several other Israeli judokas competed. Yonathan Elbaz (up to 73 kg) won his first two matches but was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Ukraine's Khalidov and subsequently lost in the repechage. Karem Primo (up to 63 kg) won her first match but lost to Olympic champion Clarisse Agbegnen of France. Ohad Moriz (up to 73 kg) won his first match but lost in the second round. Other Israeli competitors, including Itay Bivitzko, Roy Sivan, Segav Ben Harosh, Yosif Simin, Adelina Novitzki, and Maya Kogan, were eliminated in earlier rounds, with Kogan sustaining a knee injury.

The World Championships are scheduled to take place in Baku in just over a month, with both individual and team competitions expected.
