Germany Indicts 7 Suspects Linked to Hamas Plotting Attacks
German federal prosecutors have indicted seven individuals on charges of membership in Hamas and planning terrorist attacks, including the acquisition of weapons. According to the indictment, the suspects acted under the direction of senior Hamas officials and obtained an automatic rifle, 13 handguns, and over 700 rounds of ammunition. The alleged plot targeted Israeli representatives, Jewish individuals, and supporters of Israel in Germany or Austria, with the attack planned for early October 2025, around the second anniversary of the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel.
German security officials have repeatedly warned that since the October 7th attacks, various armed groups have incited violence against Jews in Germany. The German domestic intelligence service stated that thwarting this plot indicates Hamas or affiliated elements are attempting to establish clandestine logistical networks in Germany for weapon procurement and attack planning. The suspects allegedly secured the weapons and ammunition for the planned attack.
This case adds to a series of investigations and foiled plots across Europe involving suspected Hamas activity against Israeli and Jewish targets. In October 2025, three suspects were arrested in Germany for suspected Hamas activity and acquiring weapons for attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets, a bust resulting from cooperation between Israel's Mossad and German security services. A month later, a weapons cache was discovered in Vienna, with a suspect arrested in London for aiding in its acquisition and storage. German prosecutors believe the operation aimed to prepare deadly attacks against Jewish institutions or those identified with Israel.
Further investigations have uncovered Hamas infrastructure and weapons caches in Europe, intended for terror cells. These include a hideout in Vienna containing handguns and explosives. Prior to this, in November 2024, four Hamas operatives were indicted for years of maintaining and locating weapons caches in Europe aimed at Israeli and Jewish targets, with potential targets including the Israeli embassy in Berlin, the Ramstein US Air Force base, and the Tempelhof Airport area.
