Oscar Gloukh Faces Tough Competition for Playing Time at Ajax

Israeli midfielder Oscar Gloukh is facing a challenging situation at Ajax Amsterdam, with Dutch outlet FootballTransfers reporting that his regular starting position is becoming increasingly difficult to secure. After a promising start to the season, Gloukh's role has diminished due to intense competition for places in the squad.

Gloukh joined Ajax in the summer of 2025 from Salzburg, aiming to bolster the team's attacking creativity. In his first season in Amsterdam, he made 39 appearances, starting 24 games, and contributed nine goals and seven assists. However, his natural position as an attacking midfielder is currently occupied by Julian Brandt.

While Gloukh has been deployed on the left wing, this role is also proving competitive, especially with the anticipated return of Steven Bergwijn from injury in October. FootballTransfers suggests that Bergwijn is expected to be the first choice on the left wing, potentially limiting Gloukh's opportunities.

The Dutch publication noted that Gloukh's effectiveness may be reduced when playing wide, as manager Michel Sanchez prefers wingers to maintain width, a style that doesn't fully suit Gloukh's tendency to cut inside. His output has reportedly decreased since moving to a wider role, with occasional issues of holding the ball too long and making late decisions, contrasting with the team's need for quick play.

Despite the current difficulties, FootballTransfers acknowledged that the season is still young and Gloukh's situation could change due to form, injuries, or tactical shifts. They emphasized that Gloukh is not a superfluous player, but his ideal position is taken, and the left-wing role is less suited to his game.
