Ajax Midfielder Oscar Gloukh Commits to Club, Aims for Starting Role Next Season

Oscar Gloukh, the Israeli midfielder for Ajax Amsterdam, has confirmed his intention to remain with the club beyond his debut season. Signed for nearly 15 million euros less than a year ago, Gloukh struggled to secure a regular starting position last season, despite scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. He emphasized his focus on becoming a consistent starter in the upcoming season, stating, "I must become a regular starter; that is my main goal." Gloukh highlighted his playing style as one that demands the ball even under pressure and expressed optimism about earning the coach's trust.

Gloukh also acknowledged the support he received from teammates, particularly Steven Berghuis, who publicly defended him during a turbulent period for Ajax. Before joining Ajax, Gloukh consulted with Israeli footballer Eran Zahavi, who recommended the Dutch Eredivisie for its attacking style but warned that "the old Ajax" no longer exists. Zahavi suggested the club could return to its former glory with the right coach, possibly Jordi Cruyff.

Reflecting on last season, Gloukh described it as chaotic due to three different coaches, John Heitinga, Fred Grim, and Oscar Garcia, each with distinct playing philosophies, which hindered his ability to establish himself. He expressed hope that the arrival of new coach Mitchell will bring stability, praising the coach's clear ideas focused on high pressing and collective hard work. Gloukh concluded by reaffirming his commitment to Ajax unless the club decides otherwise.
