Israeli Midfielder Oscar Gloukh Commits to Ajax Despite Challenging Debut Season

Oscar Gloukh, the Israeli national team midfielder, has confirmed his intention to remain at Ajax following a difficult first season with the Dutch club. Signed for 14.75 million euros, Gloukh struggled to secure a regular starting position and faced criticism throughout the campaign. In an interview with the Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, the 22-year-old emphasized his goal to become a consistent starter in the upcoming season, stating, "In my second season, I must become a regular starter - that is my top priority." He also highlighted his playing style, expressing a preference for central or left-wing positions that allow him to move inside rather than staying wide on the flank.

Despite recent rumors about a possible transfer, Gloukh said he is fully focused on Ajax and will stay unless the club decides otherwise. His father and agent have also denied any plans for a summer departure. Gloukh acknowledged the instability at Ajax last season, which featured three different head coaches, John Heitinga, Fred Grim, and Oscar Garcia, each with distinct tactical approaches, making it harder for him to establish himself. He expressed optimism about the new coach, Mitchell, whose clear philosophy involves high pressing and intense work rate, which Gloukh hopes will benefit both the team and his development.

During his debut season, Gloukh made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing six assists. He remains determined to earn the trust of the coaching staff and improve his defensive contributions and positioning on the field.
