Israeli Midfielder Oscar Gloukh Commits to Ajax, Aims to Become Regular Starter This Season
After a turbulent debut season at Ajax marked by coaching changes and inconsistent performances, Israeli midfielder Oscar Gloukh has reaffirmed his commitment to the Dutch club ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. In an interview with the respected Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, Gloukh clarified that despite recent transfer rumors linking him to other European teams, he is fully focused on Ajax and will remain unless the club decides otherwise.
Gloukh, who joined Ajax for approximately 15 million euros, acknowledged the challenges he faced last season, including adapting to three different coaches with varying tactical approaches. He described the previous season as chaotic but expressed optimism under new coach Mitchel, whose pressing and attacking style suits Gloukh's strengths. The Israeli international emphasized his goal to secure a regular starting position this season, stating, "I must become a regular starter above all else. I am a player who always wants the ball and never hides, even with an opponent on my back."
During his first season, Gloukh made 38 appearances, scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists, but struggled to cement his place in the starting eleven and faced criticism for his defensive contributions during transitions. Looking ahead, he hopes to build trust with the coaching staff and teammates, noting that the new tactical demands will require hard work from everyone, including himself.
Regarding his preferred position, Gloukh was clear that he does not want to be confined to the left wing, where he feels limited, preferring a more central role or freedom to move inside. His focus remains on adapting to the team's style and helping Ajax succeed in the upcoming season.
