Israeli Police Discover Protected Wildlife Held Illegally Near Tulkarm
In a joint operation, Border Police (Magav) officers, detectives from the Central Magav District, and Israel Nature and Parks Authority inspectors discovered two gazelles and two badgers being held illegally in the village of Shuwaika, near Tulkarm. The operation, which took place on Thursday, is part of an ongoing investigation dubbed "Returning to Nature" by the Central Magav District, focusing on suspected illegal possession of protected wildlife.
During the raid on the compound, officers found the animals. Following their discovery, Nature and Parks Authority inspectors sedated and captured the wildlife, transferring them for further care by the authority. A suspect, a Tulkarm resident in his 60s, was arrested at the scene and taken for further investigation by the Central Magav District.
The operation aimed to locate and rescue protected wild animals being kept unlawfully. The arrested suspect is currently undergoing questioning regarding his involvement in the illegal holding of these animals.
