Massive Holiday Traffic Jams Grip Israel Ahead of Rosh Hashanah

Israel is experiencing severe traffic congestion across the country as citizens travel for the Rosh Hashanah holiday. As of 6:00 PM on Friday, major highways, particularly in the central and northern regions, are heavily backed up. Key affected routes include Highways 1, 2, 4, 6, 20, and 443.

Traffic police have deployed increased forces and resources nationwide to manage the expected surge in holiday travel, which began in the early afternoon. Authorities are advising the public to depart as early as possible to avoid the worst delays. In Jerusalem, significant traffic disruptions and road closures are anticipated around the Old City due to the influx of worshippers and visitors for Selichot prayers.

Further congestion is expected on Saturday morning and early afternoon, especially in the north, as people travel for leisure activities. The Ministry of Transportation is also on heightened alert, with its situation room operating throughout the holiday and coordinating with the Ministry of Defense and Home Front Command to address potential security-related needs, including transportation for IDF soldiers.

The police have stationed thousands of officers, Border Police, and volunteers in Jerusalem, its surrounding areas, holy sites, and other crowded locations to maintain order and security during the holiday period.
